Please Come Back Sandra!!!!

Replaced. By a man judge. Not just a man judge. A conservative man judge. A conservative man judge who's quiet and sneaky. The worst kind. Sandra was our fearless swing voter. Clincher of the decisions important to mankind, especially women.
For all of you who voted for Bush, open your eyes.
For all of you who didn't, keep your eyes open. Watch this mother trucker of a judicial branch overturn itself and be the last branch of government to be infected by a unilateral regime called the Bush Administration. I'm gonna go with Kerry on this. Bush is absolutely positively dividing America.
Newsflash! READ IT HERE!
We are not all believers in a God in this country
We are not all heterosexual in this country
We are not all able to escape the horror of rapists and trauma of abortion
Therefore, we are not in a position to write them off. They are our countrymen. They are our brothers and sisters.
Bush cheated his way on into the White House AGAIN. And he had enough Americans voting for him to make it look legit!
Now look! Executive, Legislative and now JUDICIAL completely run by this radical right. Wake up and smell the oil people.
If it was my birthday today and I had a cake with 26 candles on it, I'd wish on every one of those candles to be beamed to DC, get up to the White House and evict that son of a motherless goat and his nasty family. And have it actually work. In other words, I dream of taking over. Let me in. I'll restore the peace. I know how to run it. I know how to play well with others. Hang on, what? what's that? I'm a woman? And it's what? A man's world? Ooooooooh! OK THEN! Great, thank you! Have a good one! I'll just go back to my Desperate Housewives and Cosmo... read up on how much more I can allow society and men to objectify me. Not to mention bump out any imagination or personal dignity I may or may not have left.
Done.

Excellent post. And I agree.
But don't forget how you'll also be reading up on how to keep the men in charge happy.

Laura, thank you for caring like you do. I'm more afraid of people like me who don't know what they stand for, and therefore don't stand for anything, than those that voice their opinions loud and proud.

I'd vote for you, Richard. You know I would. Keep your passion, baby.

Okay, here's the thing: you rock. And I agree, and too often I just keep my mouth shut and I'm glad you don't.

We are not all able to escape the horror of rapists and trauma of abortion. Well, maybe if we ditch Roe more women will be able to escape the trauma of abortion. Why some folks think that's a bad idea is beyond me.

My interpretation of Hobo's statement was that some women are raped, and need to have an abortion as a result. I don't think any sane woman WANTS to have an abortion, but there are situations where people NEED to have one, and by making it illegal, they will still get one. It will just be done in horrible conditions that nobody, especially not a woman going through such trauma, should have to endure when there are safer methods available.

wow, shocked. people actually read my shoot. Second, granny grump. see g's interpretation below- she hit the nail on the head. Furthermore, it would be a bad idea to "ditch" Roe v. Wade because any overturn on a court decision where women are not marginalized in general would be BAD NEWS. We take what we can get. The story behind that decision and what was argued and all the deliberation- look into it. It's more than just abortion and was quite the charged case. And I think g's backlash reasoning is also a very good point. g- thanks. Underground/heinous abortioning will go on. You cannot take people's agency away. Think of Satan. He's livin' large now with his plan to make everyone do what was uniformly right. Large meaning, heinously. Thanks so much for everyone's opinions- there's differences. I love a little spice. Richard, thanks for the vote. Means the world to me and you better never forget it, Richard.
Love,
Richard

g and Hobo, I suggest that you call the reference desk at your local library and ask for a copy of "Illegal Abortion as a Public Health Problem", published in the July, 1960 issue of the American Journal of Public Health (v. 50 no. 7), pages 948 - 954. It was written by Mary Calderone, then Medical Director of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. Most reference librarians will get a hard copy for you if you ask. Otherwise you might have to go to a university library and dig it out of the microfilm files. Very illuminating.

Or I could talk to my friend who was a nurse while abortions where illegal and saw her fair share of women who came in with severe problems after trying to get abortions.

I am by no means pro-abortion. And, at this stage in my life, I would probably not have one myself (although if it was the result of a sexual assault, I am not sure what I would do). However I do believe that I deserve the right to choose whether or not to have one, just as I deserve the right to choose what, if any, religion to practice.

It has been shown in the past, that regardless of the legality of an abortion, women will still get it done. Those with money will find a way to secretly get a DNC or go to another country. Those without the means will resort to other methods.

What good does making it illegal do? Those who need to get it done will still find a way, but will harm themselves in addition to the fetus.

Man! Check out those referencing skills! You got skillz lady! I have never read something illuminating on abortion, pro-life or pro-choice. It's a tough issue and I wish there were solutions that worked for the common good. But alas, no. I'll try to remember looking that up. Thanks once again for the gracious blog comments and g, g-town, g-train, thank you too.

g, do you really think that women aren't coming into emergency rooms with abortion complications now? That there isn't still terrible and needless misery and death? Even National Abortion Federation members have been caught committing appalling quackery. Two former criminal abortionists -- Milan Vuitch and Jesse Ketchum -- had been careful enough never to kill a "back alley" patient, but each went on to kill two women with sloppy practices after legalization. Ketchum, in particular, managed to kill two women in a six-month period doing hysterotomy abortions in his office. He just let the women lay their and bleed to death.

My friend's daughter, Marla, ended up dying from sepsis from a safe-and-legal abortion she'd never have undergone in the first place if abortion hadn't been legal. She wanted to make an adoption plan, but a social worker browbeat her into an a abortion by lying to her that her fetus was disabled. The last two weeks of Marla's life, all she did was cry because she didn't want to go through with the abortion but the social worker had convinced her that it was "necessary." Women are dying now who never would have sought out abortions if they'd been illegal.

I think it's a lot better for the woman who really wants an abortion to have to go to some trouble to arrange one than for women who don't want them to get pressured and badgered and end up dead. But that's just me, I guess.
